Arrival Date

May at the Lodge

May is our month of Spring. Deep green vegetation is beginning to push back the browns and remaining alpine snows of winter. Temperatures range from the mid 30s to mid 60sF. Fishermen focus on trolling for very large King Salmon, fly fishing for Sockeye Salmon in several local rivers is often superb by the end of the month, and bottom fishing for Halibut, Grey Cod, and Rockfish.

The crab pot typically yields a nice catch of sweet tasting Tanner (Snow) Crab every day. Guided Sea Kayaking is enjoyable, with the water temperature and air temperature often cool (we have neoprene gloves on hand!) Our first whales are starting to arrive and may swim by in front of the lodge searching for schools of Herring, Candlefish, and other food. Guided Hiking is good, with vegetation low, and searching for local wildlife is often rewarding. Bald Eagles are hungry and it is common to see up to a few dozen in the trees and on the beach around the lodge waiting for fish scraps. Fly out bear views will likely reveal the bears grazing in fields, clam digging at low tide, and playing with furry new cubs.

June at the Lodge

June is the beginning of our Summer. The green in the hillsides is thickening and pushing right to the very edge of any remaining snow on the mountain tops, and fragile spring flowers bloom in the undergrowth. Temperatures range from the mid 40s to high 60s. Fishermen focus on trolling for feeder King Salmon, fly fishing for Sockeye Salmon is often superb at the beginning of the month, Halibut fishing is generally great, as well as Grey Cod and Rockfish. The crab pot typically yields a nice catch of sweet tasting Tanner (Snow) Crab every day. Sea Kayaking is typically excellent, cruising along the beaches and coast in search of Whales, Bears, Sea Otters, and other life. Hiking is great, with the vegetation still low and views are spectacular. Baby Bald Eagles are fun to unobtrusively watch if we're lucky enough to find a nest. Bald Eagles are hungry and it is common to see up to a few dozen in the trees and on the beach around the lodge waiting for fish scraps. Fly out bear views will likely reveal the bears grazing in fields, clam digging at low tide, and playing with furry new cubs.

July at the Lodge

July is our most diverse month. Lush green has all but blanketed the mountains, giving the Kodiak Island Archipelago it's nickname, the "Emerald Isle." Temperatures range from the high 40s to mid 70s. Fishermen focus on trolling and mooching for King Salmon and arriving schools of hungry Silver Salmon. Halibut fishing is usually excellent, as well as Grey Cod, Rockfish, and Lingcod. Pink Salmon begin to arrive in the rivers by the end of the month and are fun to target on light tackle or a fly rod. The crab pot typically yields a nice catch of sweet tasting Tanner (Snow) Crab every day. Guided Sea Kayaking is generally excellent, and it's often rewarding to pull out for a time and rest or beach comb a local warm black shale beach. Guided Hiking remains enjoyable, though some trails are starting to close in due to the Island's growing vegetation. Fly out bear viewing is often wonderful, where bears may be actively chasing salmon in the rivers, grazing in fields, and enjoying the summer days.

August at the Lodge

August marks the peak of our Summer. Pink Fireweed is in bloom and the Salmon Berries are ripe for the picking. Temperatures range from the high 40s to the mid 70s. Fishermen focus on trolling and mooching for the abundance of returning Silver Salmon, and many choose to start targeting them on fly or spinning gear in the variety of local river systems towards the end of the month. Halibut fishing is generally excellent, as well as Grey Cod, Rockfish, and Lingcod. Though less valuable than Silvers, Sockeye, or Kings, Pink Salmon are the most abundant Salmon to return to Kodiak, and they are here in full force, readily taking flies and light spinners. The crab pot typically yields a nice catch of sweet tasting Tanner (Snow Crab) every day. Guided Sea Kayaking is generally excellent with the abundance of sea life and other life in the area. Guided Hiking is best done along the coast through an old growth Sitka Spruce forest or up one of our trails as the vegetation has gotten very lush. Fly out bear views are often excellent, with bears actively chasing fish in the rivers and napping in the sun.

September at the Lodge

September is the beginning of our Fall, and the hillsides are a myriad of yellowing Pushki leaves, Red Fireweed, and remaining dominant green Temperatures begin to ease back down, and range from the low 40s to mid 60s. Fishermen enjoy the climax of our returning Silver Salmon into the eight different river systems we can fish, targeting them on fly and spinning rod. Also mixed in later in the month is the occasional Steelhead. Halibut fishing is generally good, as well as Grey Cod, Rockfish, and Lingcod. The crab pot typically yields a nice catch of sweet tasting Tanner (Snow) Crab every day. Guided Sea Kayaking is enjoyable, with the water temperature and air temperature often cool (we have neoprene gloves on hand!) Guided hiking is best done along the coast through an old growth Sitka Spruce forest or up one of our trails as the vegetation has gotten very lush. Fly out bear viewing begins to slow down as the Pink Salmon returns have moved to their conclusion, dispersing the bears. A few may still be spotted earlier in the month chasing any remaining salmon.

Times

What time of day would you like to arrive and depart the lodge?

Arrival Time
Departure Time

Early Morning Arrival

Though we recommend a mid afternoon arrival to the lodge, some guests prefer an early morning arrival around 8:30 am. In this case, plan on diving right into a day of activities as soon as you arrive. We recommend Alaska Airlines flight AS 47 from Anchorage to Kodiak, or spending the previous night in Kodiak, to maximize your time here.

Mid Afternoon Arrival

We recommend a mid afternoon arrival to the lodge, around 5 pm, which gives you time to settle in to your private cabin, enjoy a hot shower, sauna, and or a soak in our outdoor jetted hot tub before dinner. Then an easy sleep between soft flannel sheets, hearty breakfast, and you're ready to go for a full day of activities. It's a great way to adjust to Alaska time. We recommend Ravn Alaska flight 890 from Anchorage to Kodiak for a minimal layover in Kodiak City. Transportation to the lodge, via boat or plane, from Kodiak City generally departs Kodiak around 4 PM.

Mid Morning Departure

We recommend a mid morning departure from the lodge, around 9:00 a.m. This gives everyone time to have a good night sleep, big breakfast, and a chance to pack up before embarking on the long voyage home. We recommend Ravn Alaska flight 891 from Kodiak to Anchorage. We generally have guests back to Kodiak around noon.

Late Evening Departure

Though we recommend a mid morning departure from the lodge, some guests prefer an after dinner, late evening departure, around 8:30pm. Please note any fish caught on your departure day will not have had time to freeze before your return to Kodiak. We recommend Ravn Alaska flight 899 from Kodiak to Anchorage, or spending the night in Kodiak.

Please select a date that falls after today's date. Make sure you have selected an arrival and departure time.

Fishing

Located on the edge of the Pacific Ocean, on remote Raspberry Island in the Kodiak Island Archipelago, fishing based out of Kodiak Raspberry Island Remote Lodge can be phenomenal. The water flowing between and around Kodiak's Islands is teaming with bait fish, essential to the Halibut, Rockfish, Grey Cod, Lingcod and Crab we target. It is also essential to the five different species of Pacific Salmon we seek as they gorge on this food before returning to their home river. We can also access over eight different fresh water systems on Raspberry, Afognak, and Kodiak Islands, and can fish for Red (Sockeye), Pink (Humpbacked), Dog (Chum), and Silver (Coho) Salmon as they enter these rivers to eventually spawn. All fishing activities are fully guided and outfitted (you don't need to bring ANYTHING) and we provide all filleting, vacuum sealing, labeling, freezing, and boxing of the fish you choose to harvest, so it is perfectly ready for you to take home.
