Kodiak Alaska Lodge • Kodiak Fishing Lodge • Kodiak Island Lodge
I blogged about the new halibut regs at the bottom of our website if you're interested: www.RaspberryIsland.com
IMPORTANT: We have been following some new regulations regarding our halibut fishery through the recommendation process and looks like they ended up passing, though we hoped they wouldn't. Interesting ruling but it is what it is.
The new Charter Halibut Regs indicate:
Two halibut per person, per day. One must be under 29" long (Same as last year).
NEW: 5 fish annual limit. You may not harvest more than 5 fish per person.
Halibut fishing is closed on Thursdays. So, we'll have to target other species like salmon, rockfish, cod, and crab. Or, if you have opted to kayak, hike, or do a bear view we'll do our best to schedule the non fishing day to Thursday. Unfortunately, that will be a little tricky since many of our reservations are interwoven, ensuring a maximum guide to client ratio.
In the end, this is a blow to the charter halibut fishery in Alaska. We are very fortunate that the diversity of species we can target and other opportunities we have to enjoy our area will help offset this setback.
